RESO is excited to launch the Canada-Asia Pacific Co-Production Mentorship Lab (CAPCOM), with the support of Canada Media Fund (CMF), Creative BC, and the Government of Canada CanExport. 

This six-month virtual program supports mid-career racialized Canadian producers seeking to develop international co-production opportunities for their scripted television or streaming projects. Four (4) participants will be selected to gain hands-on experience and expand their professional reach into the Asia-Pacific market. 

About the Program

The CAPCOM program is structured around three integrated learning streams that combine training, hands-on experience, and project development.

At the core of CAPCOM are Individualized Development Plans, created through sessions with RESO Consultants, host companies, and mentors. These plans set individualized goals, milestones, and a clear pathway for each participant’s project and career advancement.

Program Structure and Streams

Stream 1: Industry Knowledge (Virtual Masterclass series)

Participants build advanced skills in international production through targeted virtual workshops, including:

  • Writing & IP Development (characters, story, treatment, and series bible development) 

  • Co-Production Masterclass (treaties, legal frameworks, IP, and international compliance) 

  • Export Market Trends (Asia-Pacific markets, audience insights, and cultural strategy) 

  • Pitch & Project Lab (development of export-ready pitch decks and co-production materials) 

Stream 2: Real-World Experience (Internship)

Participants gain practical industry exposure through an 8-week placement or internship with production companies:

  • Internship and mentorship with host companies focused on co-production 

  • Biweekly meetings with senior industry leaders 

  • Participation in active co-production projects 

  • Hands-on experience in business affairs and international production workflows 

Stream 3: Project Development

Participants will develop their own projects concurrently with Stream 1 & 2 with ongoing mentorship and structured milestones:

  • Industry expert mentorship and CAPCA alumni support 

  • Regular mentor check-ins and mid-program progress review 

  • Pitch refinement focused on co-production and export readiness 

  • Final preparation of pitch materials for targeted international markets

Program Completion

The program concludes with:

  • Refined, export-ready pitch package for each Participant’s project 

  • Attend either Asia Content Film Market (ACFM) in Busan, South Korea or Asia Television Forum (ATF) in Singapore as part of RESO delegation to these markets. RESO will provide up to a $3,500 travel stipend to participants.

  • Identification of potential funding and partnership opportunities 

Project Package Requirements

Must submit an original scripted serialized TV/streaming project viable for international co-production, with a clear vision for partnership with Asian markets.  Must have majority ownership of this submitted IP.

Project package to submit:


1. Logline

  • 1–2 sentences

  • Core concept, protagonist, and central stakes 

2. Synopsis (short and long)

  • Short synopsis: 1 paragraph

  • Long synopsis: 1–2 pages (or 800 words)

Includes:

  • Main characters

  • Central conflict

  • Narrative trajectory from beginning to end (or season arc for series)

3. Treatment

  • Maximum 5 pages

  • Written in prose form, covering the complete story or season arc

Includes:

  • Full narrative arc (or season structure for series)

  • Character journeys and relationships

  • Tone, themes, and storytelling approach

  • Season conclusion (series/limited series)

Selection Criteria

  • Clearly articulated (story + characters)

  • Originality and entertainment value, audience appeal

  • Structurally thought through (beginning–middle–end)

  • Positioned for development and co-production

Who Should Apply

This program is geared toward mid-career producers who:

  • Have majority ownership of a strong, original serialized scripted project (TV or streaming) in development suitable for Asian and global markets

  • Are committed to international collaboration, particularly in Asia-Pacific markets 

  • Are ready to engage deeply in a rigorous, cohort-based learning environment 

  • Available for a full-time 8 week internship in a production company (there will be some flexibility in placement schedule, $5,000 stipend will be provided by RESO)

  • Want to develop and/or strengthen lead Producer/Showrunner knowledge and skills  

Eligibility Criteria

  • Have a minimum of two producer credits on completed projects (e.g., short film, television/streaming or web series, feature film, or documentary) OR

  • Completed a recognized Producer Lab program (i.e. National Screen Institute Access BIPOC Producers, Reelworld Producer Program, etc) . Confirmation Letter required.

Canadian Requirement - Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Residents and must reside in the same city of the matched production company or be willing and able to temporarily relocate (no additional housing stipend will be provided if temporary location is required for the internship)

Note - Applicants who traveled to an Asian market as a RESO delegate will unlikely be selected for this program.

Key Dates

  • Application Deadline: June 1, 2026

  • Interviews + Follow up Pitch Samples Requested for Shortlisted Applicants: conducted on a rolling basis, until June 12, 2026

  • Program Start Date: June 23, 2026

  • Industry Virtual Industry Masterclasses: June 23 – July 16, 2026, 2x per week - Tuesday & Thursdays - 90-120 minutes each session

  • Internship: August 4 – September 30, 2026, 8 weeks, potential to shift to a later start date (max. 2 weeks later start)

  • A completed application form;

  • A detailed project package (see Project Requirements)

  • A professional resume and portfolio highlighting your experience in scripted television production, filmography 

  • A statement (500 words max.) outlining why you want to participate in CAPCOM, your familiarity with coproduction, and how this program will support your co-production goals; and 

  • A $25 application fee per pitch submission
